About Us
Come and join us for the adventure of a lifetime…
Our tours are adventures. We will take you off the beaten track. We will take you where other tours do not go. We will take you into the barren beautiful wilderness, up (and down!) challenging mountain passes and along stunning coastal roads.
You will enjoy landscapes that you’ve never experienced before. You will enjoy night skies free from light pollution. You will experience nature.
Our tours will take your breath away when you encounter the unbelievable beauty of South Africa. To reach these places we have to travel on dirt and gravel roads. Eighty percent of our tours will be on these types of roads.
It is therefore advisable, but not essential, that you have experience of and are comfortable on these surfaces. Novice riders should only travel with us if it is on a bespoke tour, in which case we can alter the route to suit.
Is it safe to visit South Africa?
Yes it is safe to visit South Africa. It is true that there is a high level of crime in parts of the country, but the most violent crimes occur in townships and isolated areas away from the normal tourist destinations. The routes we will take you will be completely safe.
Do I need to be a good rider?
We all strive to be good riders! If you are confident on a bike then you should be OK. Some optional sections of the route do require skill and caution. We will assess your skills as we ride and will determine if there are any sections less confident riders may struggle with.
Can I take a pillion passenger?
On our standard tours the answer is no. This is possible however, on a bespoke tour if you bring friends that also wish to ride with a passenger, as we will alter the route to one that is more pillion friendly. Pillions may also ride in the support vehicle when required. It will not be a luxury ride for a passenger!
How long or far will we ride each day?
This varies each day depending upon the distance between destinations, but typically 200-300km per day. The longest day may be approaching 500km. We ride at a leisurely pace and, together with lunch and photo stops etc. we could be out most of the day.
How fast will we be riding?
Our tours are all about enjoying the splendour of the route, so we do not ride fast. On fast open roads, perhaps 80-100kph but on more technical sections and mountain passes, typically 40-50kph.
Will I have to share a room?
Not usually. Our prices are based on a room being shared, but we can cater for single occupancy depending upon availability at our overnight stops. There will be usually be a supplement if you prefer not to share.
Will I be able to get internet and phone signal on the tours?
You will be able to get internet and phone access at our overnight destinations. During the day whilst out on the road, the network coverage is limited. Except for when passing through a town, you cannot expect to be in coverage.
Will I be able to take photographs en-route?
Absolutely! What would a memorable tour be without taking home a clutch of awesome photo’s? There will be plenty of photo opportunities en-route for which we regularly stop.
Our tour groups typically accommodate 4-8 riders. Prices are based on us making up the group to 8 riders. The minimum group size is 4 riders. If you are less than 8 and require a solus tour, the price will be amended accordingly.
Our tours require all participants to acknowledge and respect other riders in the group. We will do our best to ensure all riding levels are catered for within a group.
We can accommodate groups up to 12 riders with sufficient notice.
We have a number of standard tour routes that are most popular with riders. They will be along a predefined route each day and will end at our favourite hotels. If you are riding with us for the first time, then we recommend one of our standard tours.
All tours begin on a Sunday with a day tour around the Cape Peninsula to allow you to become familiar with the bike on tar roads. Thereafter we head out of town in a circular route, arriving back in Cape Town on the Friday evening (day 6).
We can usually accommodate bespoke tours depending upon your requirements and timings. If you have specific places you would like to visit, or you would like a longer tour we will try to arrange this.
We can also accommodate a solus tour, dedicated only to your group, as long as there are at least 4 riders. Groups of up to 12 are welcome. If you are in Cape Town only for 2 or 3 days, we may also be able to assist.
